Lounes graduated from the University of Nice-Cote d’Azur with a Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences in 2016. This first degree ignited his interest in Science as a whole and heightened his awareness of the climate crisis. More importantly, it allowed him to harness his passion for learning and curiosity, a key to communicate Science accurately across various topics.
After a year in New Zealand, during which he got familiar with storytelling on social media, he moved to the UK to pursue his academic course. A MSc in Science Communication at the University of Manchester was the perfect way to combine his writing skills and passion for learning with his existing scientific knowledge without necessarily working in research.
During his Master’s, Lounes worked with Multilingual Manchester, a project aiming to promote language diversity in Manchester. For them he produced teaching content for children from scratch, in English and in French, to help bilingual children learn about COVID-19 and basic immunology notions.
He also investigated the representation of nuclear energy as a solution to climate change in British newspapers. This research led him to uncover the wide gap between the image of nuclear energy given in the media compared to the scientific consensus on the matter.
Since then, Lounes has been honing and practicing his writing skills through his work experience and by opening a weekly science blog (lounesdala.com). In his blog he tries to explore topics he is interested in, cover science news and raise awareness on climate change, using pIain language to target a general public.
Being a freelance writer for AzoNetwork, Lounes hopes to keep up with cutting edge science across different areas.
In his free time, Lounes enjoys reading, fiction and non-fiction alike, cooking and spending time outdoors. He also enjoys learning new languages and hopes to have the opportunity to practice while traveling the world.
