Overview
A highly reliable and seamless heater/cooling module for robot systems is available from QInstruments. The black, high-end ColdPlate instrument sets the new benchmark for microplate cooling and heating and is designed for automation.
If the user needs prompt and accurate temperature control on a robotic deck, the Heater-Cooler thermoblock offers extremely precise temperature control for the most demanding robotics applications.
Compared to a typical microplate, the module is a bit larger. ColdPlate provides excellent temperature control for tubes, glass vials, or microplates and is fully adjustable between –20 °C and +99.9 °C, far exceeding the cooling and heating accuracy of most other brands.
This module was initially introduced in the spring of 2018 and updated in the winter of 2019 with a whole new level of features. Improved internal algorithms, sensors, and accuracy allow for a long lifespan and smooth operation of the module.

- Many laboratory experiments call for quick heating and cooling steps that must be performed with extreme accuracy in the –20 to 99.9 °C range. The ColdPlate’s precise temperature control is made possible by the use of perfectly balanced cooling and heating elements
- Each lab automation project is guaranteed to have a long useful life by the novel Peltier technology, minimized electronics, and trustworthy algorithms
- For precisely setting and maintaining temperatures, ColdPlate is the best tool. The module is slightly bigger than a typical microplate
- ColdPlate offers excellent temperature control for microplates, tubes, and vials and is fully adjustable between –20 °C and 99.9 °C, far exceeding the cooling and heating accuracies of most other brands
- Only a PC is required for control; all other components can be found inside the unit
- Selectable temperatures range from –20 °C to 99.9 °C in increments of 0.1 °C. With a temperature distribution uniformity of better than 0.7 °C at 4 °C across the cooling surface, the nominal regulation accuracy is better than 0.1 °C
- Perfect adaptation to microplates, tubes, or glass vials is made possible by exchangeable thermo adapter plates and thermal blocks
LED indication light
Simple status monitoring
- For monitoring operating parameters and error detection, ColdPlate has sophisticated internal algorithms and sensors built in. Through the RS232 communication interface, errors are sent out. These are simpler to find and locate
- The ColdPlate has one integrated LED indication light up front to help with functional testing during installation and visualizing the operating status
- The indication light enables quick error detection and correction. The green and red status indicators on this either light up or are disabled
- To more precisely identify the error in the event of failure, the error list should be read out using an RS232 command
Exchangeable thermo adapters
For a wide range of applications
- There are numerous standardized and targeted thermo adapter plates included with the ColdPlate elm. The adapters can be changed very easily
- The optimal fit for standard tubes, lysis tubes, microplates, glass vials, and other sample vessels is made possible by perfectly shaped adapters. All samples are assured to have excellent temperature uniformity and homogeneity
Comfort
Simple intuitive integration in robots and programming
- The RS232 or USB user interfaces can be used to control the ColdPlate. After turning it on, an automatic initialization will begin
- Users can easily control hardware and sensors using a simple and direct command set. The process parameters are continuously read out and controlled. This guarantees the highest level of operating security, even during continuous, unattended operation
- All BioShake units come with approved SILA® drivers from QInstruments
