Overview
PhotoGel® is nothing but a sterile, lyophilized, medium degree of methacrylation (~50%) methacrylated gelatin. PhotoGel® offers 3D gelatin hydrogels with special attributes to be made at several concentrations and photocrosslinked (needs a photoinitiator) to offer different gel stiffness.
Advanced BioMatrix provides PhotoGel® 50% degree of methacrylation, a purified and lyophilized methacrylated gelatin for photocrosslinkable hydrogels. PhotoGel® offers 3D tunable gels with special attributes to be made at different concentrations and crosslinked to offer different gel stiffness.
The PhotoGel® kit comprises a photoinitiator and a purified methacrylated porcine gelatin. The gelatin is known to be a type A 300 bloom. The separate product just consists of methacrylated gelatin.

PhotoGel® has been generated from methacrylated gelatin where the gelatin has been altered by responding to the free amines. This has been mainly the ε-amines groups of the lysine residues and also the a-amines groups on the N-termini. Around, >75% of the complete lysine residues of the gelatin molecule have been methacrylated.
The photoinitiator comprises Irgacure 2959 to be formulated in methanol (methanol not included) enabling UV crosslinking of the collagen measuring at 365 nm.
