Overview
For 2D and 3D cell culture, or as a collagen standard, VitroCol® is a solution of type I human atelocollagen at a concentration of 3 mg/ml. Natural human collagen is produced by processing and purifying VitroCol® collagen, which is naturally secreted from human neo-natal fibroblast cells.
The first naturally produced, purified human collagen for research purposes is available in VitroCol®. The only native-like human collagen available, VitroCol® is the gold standard in terms of functionality and purity (>99% collagen content).
Human neo-natal fibroblast cells naturally secrete VitroCol® collagen. For the human fibroblasts to secrete extracellular matrix naturally and effectively, they are cultured under ideal conditions. The naturally produced human collagen is then obtained by processing and purifying the extracellular matrix.
About 97% of VitroCol® is Type I human collagen, with the remaining 2% being Type III collagen. VitroCol® is given out at a concentration of about 3 mg/ml.
On a Certificate of Analysis that is provided with the purchase of each product, the concentration for each particular lot is listed. Since VitroCol® is soluble in 0.01 N HCl and contains atelocollagen, the pH is 2.
VitroCol® is particularly well suited for human cell culture systems when used as a solid gel, thin layer preparation for cell culture, or surface coating. Human collagen from VitroCol® is offered in convenient packaging for use and storage. VitroCol® is provided as a ready-to-use solution and is sterile filtered.
